Abstract. The atmospheric gravity waves in horizontally inhomogeneous stratified medium are studied assuming the dependence of the Brunt–Vaisala frequency on the horizontal coordinate. In linear approximation, it is shown that structure of these waves demonstrates the reflection, the amplitude growth, and the wavelength decrease along the direction of the Brunt–Vaisala frequency wb(x) decrease in the vertically limited atmospheric layer. This tendency may result in the destruction of the wave in the vicinity of w=wb(x) and in generation of turbulence.
Keywords: atmospheric gravity waves, inhomogeneous medium.
