Abstract
Calculated numerical model of the 2A crustal layer formation at the Mid-Atlantic Ridge describes the 2A layer thickness as well as its thinning with the distance from the ridge axis. Minimum 2A layer thickness (0.3 km) constraints the mean crust viscosity by 1021 Pa.s for the spreading rate characteristic of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
Keywords: mid-ocean ridge, oceanic crust thickness, viscosity of the crust.
